We believe the best fly anglers are the ones having the most fun. We cater each trip to exactly that. Whether you are new to fly fishing, or a seasoned angler, we have the knowledge and experience to provide a safe and unforgettable day on the water.

Half day trips are 3-4 hours long. Morning or afternoon. Morning trips start between 8-9am. Afternoon trips start between 1-2pm.

Full day trips are 7-8 hours long, with lunch provided. Starts between 8-9am.

Evening floats in the summer start around 4PM and go until sundown, between 8-9PM. June through September.

Starting times are flexible.

We provide all gear, as needed. This includes waders/wading boots, fly rods, flies & terminal tackle. We use premium gear from companies like Lamson, NRS, Fishpond, Redington, TFO, Rio Products, Orvis, Simms, Cortland, Loon Outdoors and others.

Already an experienced angler? We offer specialized trips for those looking to learn a new technique. Euronymping/Tight Lining, Streamer Fishing, Advanced Dry Fly Fishing & Stillwater Tactics. Please reach out to set up a specialized trip or just leave us a note while booking. 

After you book, your guide will be in contact with a list of what you will need for a day on the water. This will depend on what time of year it is, but mostly a water bottle, sunglasses (polarized are best), a rain jacket and a hat. Dress in layers, the weather is always changing, and it’s nice to be able to adapt. 

You will need a New Mexico Fishing License, which is not included with trip. You can purchase one at https://wildlife.dgf.nm.gov Just a screenshot of license in enough.

Transportation to and from the river is not available at this time.

Pricing does not include gratuity, standard gratuity for professional guides is 15-20% of trip total.

Deposit and Cancellation Policy

A $100 deposit is required to secure your trip, refundable up to 7 days before the date. Cancellations within 7 days (and more than 48 hours) forfeit the deposit. Cancellations within 48 hours of the trip will be charged the full trip price.

We fish all weather and water conditions. Most of the time, we can just change our plan and go to a different river or creek. In the event of dangerous conditions, Ramblin' Fly Fishing will make the call, and the option to rebook will be offered or a full refund will be issued.

Where is Ramblin’ Fly Fishing located?

We are based out of a small community on the south side of Taos, New Mexico called Ranchos de Taos.

Where does Ramblin’ fish?

Most of our fishing takes places on The Rio Grande, from the Colorado State Line all the way down to Velarde. We also fish a vast number of other waters in the Taos and Northern New Mexico area that we fish like Red River, The Rio Costilla, The Rio Chama and many more.

What type of trips do we offer?

We do both wade fishing and float boat fishing trips. We have both half day and full day options, with evening floats being offered between June and September. Half day and evening float trips are 4 hours long. Full day trips are 8 hours long. This does not include travel time to and from the river.

Do we provide gear on our trips?

We provide all gear, as needed, on our trips. This included waders, wading boots, fly rod, flies and terminal tackle.

What do I need for a day on the water?

Mainly a water bottle, a rain jacket, sunglasses (polarized are best), and a hat. It’s always best to dress in layers, the weather is always changing and its nice to be able to adapt. We recommend staying away from cotton and wearing synthetics, since they will help keep you warm if wet.

What should I expect on a trip?

We tailor each trip to your angling skill level and what you want to get out of the experience. Our patient, experience-driven approach ensures a full day of learning—not just about fly fishing, but also its history, the dynamic ecosystems fish inhabit, and the rich cultural heritage of Northern New Mexicos waterways.

What is the best time of year to fish?

Because we’re located in the Southwest at the base of the Southern Rocky Mountains, we enjoy excellent year-round fishing. No matter the season, there’s always fishable water—from the hottest days of summer to the coldest, snowiest days of winter. With a wide range of angling opportunities, including a large wild river, high-mountain creeks, alpine lakes, and lower-elevation lakes, there’s always a place to cast a line and a strong chance of catching fish.

What type of fish do we fish for?

Mostly Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Brook Trout and Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout. In the summer months we enjoy fishing for smallmouth bass, and we have a lake with a healthy population of Northern Pike.

Do I need to buy a fishing license?

Where will I meet my guide?

Your guide will set up a meeting time and place a day or two before your trip. This will depend on where we are fishing and what area you are staying in.

Do you provide rides to and from the river?

Currently we do not provide transportation to and from the river.
